About 25 million elementary and high school students in the Philippines have flocked to thousands of public and private schools in different areas all over the country last June 13, 2016 for the opening of the new school year, with 11 million of them entering senior high school for the first time as part of the country's full implementation of the controversial K to 12 program.
But despite the setbacks upon the new school year opening, students and teachers are finding more ways to make the new school year worthwhile. Heck, many of the student population are making use of the combined power of media and technology to make their studies not only worthwhile but also fun and understandable as well and it has become possible for them through Knowledge Channel, the first and only educational channel in the Philippines.
For over 17 years, Knowledge Channel has become part of the learning journey of more than five million Filipino students that has significally enhanced their academic performance through the introduction of learning resources that are aligned with the country's basic education curriculum. From just a simple educational cable channel, Knowledge Channel and its library of educational programs on Early Childhood Education, K to 12, and alternative learning have expanded its reach towards various multimedia platforms such as online (kchonline.ph), video on-demand (Knowledge Channel On-Demand), digital free TV (ABS-CBN TV Plus), and direct-to-home (Sky Direct).
The dedication and commitment of Knowledge Channel not only benefit students, but also teachers from hundreds of public schools through programs and workshops that can harness their competencies in helping students meet or exceed academic standards. To date, the channel has trained more than 5,000 teachers and principals in 1,500 schools nationwide.
With the resources and services that the premiere educational channel on Philippine television can provide, the setbacks experienced by students at the start of the new school year will not be considered a burden to them as long as they have Knowledge Channel to complement their journey to become successful people of the Republic of the Philippines in the coming years.
