Facebook, the world's most popular and most influential social networking site today, is now making the transition of entering the world of competitive gaming as it is set to compete against popular electronic sports streaming site Twitch and Google's Youtube Gaming.
Within this month, people will be able to use their Facebook accounts to log in to Blizzard Entertainment's popular online games such as World of Warcraft and the recently launched online shooter Overwatch. Once logged in, users can make use of Facebook's live-streaming feature to broadcast their own gameplay footage in real time. This is only the beginning of the social networking site's collaboration with one of the leading online gaming developers in the world today.
Aside from the Facebook Live capability, the partnership between Facebook and Blizzard will add social features to the ladder's games while highlighting the former as a platform for sharing, viewing and discussing play.
Facebook's recent development has become a testament to the continuing success of electronic sports and competitive gaming in every aspect of today's modern world. On the other hand, I don't think that the Facebook-Blizzard deal would give Twitch and Youtube a run for their money because there are some who do not understand the impact of competitive gaming unless they find a suitable platform for them to enjoy every single moment of it. Well, we'll see if Facebook's entry in the wonderful world of e-sports can become as successful as any streaming service offered to gamers and non-gamers around the world.
