A Riveting Taste of Pinoy TV Originals

Despite the continuing advent of technology and ongoing penetration of devices that cater to what consumers want for their own digital life, many Filipinos still prefer television as their main source of news, information and especially entertainment. But while they continue to enjoy watching their favorite teleseryes on their television screens, some would rather consider watching foreign TV shows since they are loyal subscribers to pay TV services like Cignal and Skycable. But, at the start of the new year, this is where Philippine TV originals would come in.

So far throughout the year, television networks and entertainment companies have been producing a wide suite of Filipino-made original shows which inform and entertain people about various aspects of Filipino culture and lifestyle. One such example is ABS-CBN when it recently launched an original comedy show exclusively made for digital free TV, and that would be Funny Ka, Pare Mo on ABS-CBN TV Plus' Cinemo. The show would aim to bring back the glory days of Philippine comedy that was once dominated by the late Dolphy, and I think it has succeeded and continues to be enjoyed by households who have already made the shift to clearer viewing.

Another original Filipino TV show recently launched is Single/Single, a collaboration between ABS-CBN's premiere pay TV movie channel Cinema One and The Philippine Star via the already-intriguing PhilStar TV. Now on its second season which started last Sunday, the new show showcases the life and times of the new generation of Filipinos called millennials and how they cope with many problems that affect their life regarding love, family and happiness. The two mentioned are just examples of how original Filipino TV shows can cope with the modern problems of the ordinary Filipino today.

But if you want to enjoy a wide selection of original Philippine TV shows on your arsenal, then subscribe to Cignal and enjoy watching any of your favorites on Sari-Sari Channel. Made through a partnership between Mediaquest and Viva Entertainment, the channel offers a wide range of original shows and Filipino movies that cater to pay TV audiences. The best thing about what is offered on that channel is that they are not covered by the policy sanctioned by the MTRCB considering that every show is bound to be edgy and conventional suitable to the delight of the Filipino audience.

I can say that a riveting taste of Pinoy TV originals may be considered as an alternative to those who are not satisfied with what they have witnessed while watching their favorite foreign TV shows, but they are just better than US TV shows that are destined to be cancelled permanently like Agent Carter, Beauty and the Beast, and Castle. Hey, just ask Rappler.
