A Defining Moment for Local Professional Gaming

The Philippine e-sports industry continues to mound its efforts in making ESL One Manila 2016 a world-class event for gaming enthusiasts and aficionados from all over the world to enjoy as our country is having a huge responsibility of hosting the first and probably the biggest DOTA 2 tournament in Southeast Asia today. On the other hand, despite the hometown crowd support, it will be a hard situation for the Philippines to pit and compete against some of the best professional gaming teams in the world when it transpires in a few days.

Nevertheless, it would seem that professional gaming in the Philippines continues to thrive in its own way since the release of popular multiplayer PC games Counter-Strike and Starcraft in our local shores back in the late 90s. But what revolutionized the industry to what it is today is the advent of massively multiplayer online (MMO) and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games that are big hits for local gamers whether they go to their respective computer shops or use their own computers or mobile devices anytime and anywhere they want as long as they have a stable and fast Internet connection, which is a much-needed requirement for anyone to enjoy online games.

Through the years, the local e-sports fare has been challenged by a lot of issues, especially lack of support from the national government which is considered a major hindrance to the industry's continuing success. However, these challenges did not hinder the industry to fail and it is all thanks to the overwhelming backing of the local private sector. And to prove my point about it, I would like to invite every Filipino DOTA 2 fanatic to watch the upcoming ESL One Manila 2016 event on their television screens which will be aired exclusively on the happy network TV5 and see what makes the professional gaming scene up and running until now.

The country's hosting of ESL One Manila 2016 may be considered a potentially defining moment for local professional gaming, but this is just only the beginning of what will happen to the local e-sports fare as it continues to give birth to the future of pro gaming which will be the pride of our country in the future.
