Five Fun and Serious Facts About Lipa City

Lipa City

Lipa City is celebrating its 69th foundation day, and there are many things that you should and should not know about the city that has been making progress through the years since it became a city in 1947. So, in celebration of its founding anniversary, I will give you some fun and serious facts that blogs and Facebook groups do not know about the city and some of its developments over the years.

1. Regarding the celebration of Lipa City's foundation day, it was originally held last August 31. But thanks to the city's renowned historians and some proclamations from local and national government, it is now being celebrated every 20th of June with classes, banks and government offices within the premises of the city being suspended.

2. Lipa City is known as the Little Rome of the Philippines not only because of its numerous religious institutions and establishments, but also of the apparitions and miracles that happened in 1948 and 1990. Regardless of the Vatican's decision on the first apparition which is declared to be unbelievable, many still flock to the city's finest churches for prayer and blessing.

3. Robinsons Place Lipa and SM City Lipa may be considered as the true malls of the city, but those who have been in the city for the first time did not know that the distinction of being the first true major shopping mall in the city belongs to Fiesta World Mall, which opened in 1998. Until now, Fiesta World Mall remains to become firm and progressive on its own ground thanks to the likes of Fiesta Home Center, Jollibee, Royal British College and The Results Companies.

4. Through the years, the Candido B. Lopez Memorial Public Market has become a place of disaster, especially when part of the said market or the compound is on fire. And it just happened not once, not twice, but three times. And I think that the most recent one was aired on TV Patrol Southern Tagalog, although I can't remember when it happened. I just hope that someone from the city or who has been in that incident tell me about it.

5. The old city hall compound is not just home to the infamous Lipa City Youth and Cultural Center, but also an educational hub where thousands of elementary and secondary students flock to schools that are closest to their homes and their hearts. It is also home to the regional office of the Land Transportation Office which is nearly in front of the Lipa City National High School.

These are just some of the fun and serious facts that you should know about my hometown. But if you want to know more about them, well you just have to wait for next year if you want to understand more about Lipa City and its ongoing progress. Until then, happy foundation day, city of Lipa, and God bless!!
