Of Resurgence and Breaking Hearts

The rainy season is upon us and La Nina is on the horizon, but this does not stop movie buffs from pouring cinemas watching their anticipated movie. And within the last two weeks of June, there are two movies waiting to be shown in hundreds of movie theaters in the Philippines that can personify two things - freedom and love. Oh, and I'm talking about the sci-fi action film Independence Day: Resurgence and the Star Cinema's Filipino romantic comedy movie The Achy Breaky Hearts.

Independence Day: Resurgence set twenty years after the events of the first movie where a more powerful fleet of aliens are set to invade the Earth and threaten the human race once more. Some of the characters from the first movie will make their return to the big screens, but no Will Smith will be there. Although many consider the movie to be a sequel of the 1996 box-office blockbuster hit, there are some who have thought that it is not. Well, you have to watch the movie to find out if it deserved to be called a sequel.

As for Star Cinema's offering for the wedding month, this will feature two of the hottest and most popular love teams in Philippine television - Maya and Ser Chief, and JodIan. Yes, Jodi Sta. Maria teams up with Richard Yap and Ian Veneracion for this engagingly funny love story under the helm of the renowned director Antonette Jadaone who is known for That Thing Called Tadhana which has changed the landscape of indie films in mainstream cinema. For more about the movie, then watch this teaser.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be out in local theaters on June 22, 2016 while The Achy Breaky Hearts is set to be shown next week. Enjoy these offerings of resurgence and breaking hearts, movie goers!!
