700 MHz Frequency

Following the acquisition of San Miguel Corporation's telecommunication assets, PLDT-Smart Communications and Globe Telecom began to make use of the fabled 700 MHz frequency through the initial operation of its first sleuth of new cell sites that is capable of broadcasting the said frequency, and the initial results were nothing but impressive.

The 700 MHz spectrum is said to be an important factor for mobile and broadband internet services in the Philippines in the eyes of the two leading telecommunication companies in the country considering that the benefits of the said frequency include improved indoor signal penetration, wider reach, increased broadband capacity, and more affordable rates. Essentially, the capabilities and benefits of the said frequency will be useful for those who have mobile devices that are capable of fast 4G LTE internet technology.

Now about the initial results, Globe's first 700 MHz cell site within the confines of UP Diliman has registered a whopping speed of more than 100 Mbps. On the other hand, Smart's own cell sites in different parts of the country (including one in Ecoland, Matina, Davao City which is the home of incoming Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte) have been firing up with download speeds of more than 100 Mbps as well. The ladder also tested carrier aggregation between the 700 MHz spectrum and another frequency in the same areas, which turns out to be much faster than the former spectrum alone.

Well, it seems that Smart and Globe are starting to improve their services that would further cater to the digital lifestyle needs of Filipino mobile subscribers with the acquistion of the 700 MHz frequency. It is all up to the consumers whether they are contented with the improvements and developments that the duopoly in the local telecommunications industry that has been providing within a certain period of time.
