Meet Lenovo's First Project Tango Smartphone

Lenovo Phab2 Pro

Lenovo has recently launched its new line of intriguing and power-packed phablets last week, but many tech critics and enthusiasts are starting to become impressed at the Phab2 Pro. This is because it is the first smartphone in the world incorporated with Google's Project Tango.

If you don't know about Project Tango, it is simply a real-time 3D mapping technology comprising of cameras and several sensors essential for motion tracking, depth perception and area learning. This would allow the device to visualize anything within one's surroundings including the shape and size of the room, presence of obstacles and textures. In short, it is like augmented reality generated within a mobile device.

For the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, it offers a lot of augmented reality applications where the surrounding objects will be used for games, simulations and educational demonstrations. But, for me, it does not matter. However, the most innovative of the three looks more stunning to deal with. So, without any further detail, here are the specs of the conniving Phab2 Pro:

- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa core chipset
- 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 and 1.4 GHz Cortex A-53 quad core processors
- Adreno 510 graphics
- 6.4-inch Quad HD IPS capacitive multitouch display
- 2.5D curved glass
- 4 GB of RAM
- 64 GB of internal storage
- Expandable memory up to 128 GB via microSD card
- 16 megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash
- 8 megapixel front camera with 1.4um pixels
- Depth and motion tracking sensors for Tango
- Dolby Atmos audio technology/5.1 channel audio capture
- WiFi/Bluetooth 4.0/USB On-the-Go/GPS/A-GPS
- Dual SIM, Dual standby (SIM slot 2 can be used as microSD card slot)
- 4G LTE/3G HSPA+ connectivity
- 4050 mAh lithium-ion battery with quick charging support

Consumers will surely be disappointed when they find out that the Lenovo Phab2 Pro will not be released in stores until the end of the year. But, you will be more disappointed if I say that its official price if about US$500. Heck, if it becomes available in the Philippines, I will not expect it to become a high-end smartphone like all the others, but I prefer a much better smartphone than this in the end.
