When it comes to the national and local elections, there is no doubt that the telecommunications industry in the Philippines has been solid in being neutral in choosing the country's next future leaders. But, this year, as the elections goes to a dramatic climax, it would seem that one part of the industry has decided to stand up for what it has believed in, even if it takes sacrificing one part of its own policies.
Many tech enthusiasts in the country were surprised when they learn from a popular local tech blog that Filipino mobile phone brand MyPhone has officially and bravely endorsed outgoing Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the next President of the country for 2016. David Lim, chairman and chief executive officer of the brand, explained on TechPinas that most of its employees are loyal to Duterte and his campaign as the next leader of our local shores in the next six years, which prompted the former to call all employees and company leaders who wish to have a better business-friendly environment for the benefit of the Filipino people.
Well, I guess his explanation makes sense since he also stated that he and his family are never backed down from anything, especially in a time like this. With this bold and daring move, MyPhone may have spiritually broken part of the strictest rules of corporate communications and marketing but no one can ever question the admiration and guts of the first mobile phone brand in the country to stand up for something that would be worth fighting for in the future. And if you think that MyPhone is serious about its statement regarding the upcoming elections on May 9, then believe it because they do.
