The month of May will be an enjoyable and intriguing month for Filipino movie buffs, especially those who love video games, as three movies based on some of the world's most popular gaming franchises are set to conquer the big screens throughout the month.

And kicking off a surge of video game-based movies to be shown in hundreds of local cinemas in the Philippines is the anticipated Angry Birds Movie, where movie buffs and fans of the hit mobile game since its inception on mobile devices in the early 2010s can find out why birds are angry following the coming of the mysterious kingdom of green pigs that eventually aim to steal the birds' eggs for their own pleasure.

Second, one of the most iconic video game franchises released for the Sony PlayStation line is transitioning itself to cinemas, and that would be Ratchet and Clank. This movie follows how Ratchet and Clank meet and band together to stop the sinister plan of Chairman Drek to destroy Planet Tenemule using the Deplanetizer. This could satisfy many young viewers who do not know much about the series since it has grossed about US$7 million in North America alone.

And then there is Warcraft: The Beginning, which is set to be shown first in the Philippines on May 25 and other countries five days after before its North American release on June 10. If you like the game especially Warcraft III where Defense of the Ancients is born, then you should love this movie if you want to know how it all started.
