I was surprised when I learned from entertainment news items that Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's The Secret Life of Pets was number one in its opening weekend grossing a record-breaking US$38.3 million on its opening day alone and US$104.4 million within the said weekend, which has exceeded expectations from movie critics. The movie made by the ones behind the successful Despicable Me movie franchise has succeeded in a way that they want something to prove in their own grounds, but I do agree with the fact that it is not like a reimagining of the 1995 Disney animated movie Toy Story considering that I do not see the resemblance between these two movies.
Hence, I can see that it is something that you want to see once it hits movie theaters in the Philippines hopefully in August or in September. For more on that, you can watch this trailer below.
And then there is Ignacio de Loyola, a Filipino-produced film that is a modern interpretation of the story of St. Ignatius who founded the Jesuits religious order. If you want to ask me why is this movie shot in Navarro, Spain and made by a Filipino filmmaker making its own ground in the movie industry, my answer is that Ignacio de Loyola is the first Filipino film that was screened in the Vatican City and earned positive marks from Vatican movie critics. It is set to be shown in selected theaters in different parts of the country on July 27. But if you want to know this movie is something that God-fearing movie buffs should consider watching, watch this.
If you agree that these movies prove that they are standing in their own ground in the eyes of the movie industry, then you should understand that not all movies being shown theaters are deemed successful in the end. If not, then try to find something that is most deserving to have its own ground intact until it blows through the big screens.
